12 Days of Christmas for Ben: Day 2

Day 1 was a HUGE success, and I just can’t thank you enough for the nearly 80 texts that Ben received yesterday from so many. He was floored by the love and laughter sent his way. It was amazing!

Today’s challenge is one that is near and dear to both of our hearts, and it isn’t one that is talked about often – the loss of physical affection and connections with friends and family. Ben is a big guy (he stands at 6’5″) and has a heart the size of Texas. For as long as I can remember, he has been the life-sized teddy bear in the lives of our children and with friends and family.

Because he can no longer stand independently or lift his arms by himself, giving and receiving hugs looks and feels a lot different. So, to honor Ben on this 2nd day of Christmas, we ask that you hug your loved ones. Go ahead. Hug deep. Embrace strong. Make it awkward if you must by letting it last just a little longer than normal. Don’t take another hug for granted — we miss our dad-hugs around here something fierce and wish we could have had just a few more.

Share your hugs with Ben by tagging him on Facebook (@Ben.Barrus.3) or Instagram (@bigdaddybarrus) and use the #12daysforBen and #grinandbarrus so we can find you online. Hug away…It’s going to be a beautiful day!
