Sending Love to Texas

Nothing compares to having a good friend. Life on this teeter-totter just wouldn’t be the same. They pick you up when you are low and sometimes you get to experience the joys of bringing them up, too. It takes a special kind of friend to jump into our pool and not be overwhelmed by the craziness and chaos. So when they do, you hang on to them and treasure their friendship and love.

Jennifer Burkman has been that kind of friend since I started following her as an underclassman in our small high school. She was a couple of years older than me and I wanted to be her. Between cheerleading and FFA, we made a million memories. Our first babies were born within days of each other and she watched my little one for a bit while I navigated being a working mom and student. Then we blinked and 20 plus years have passed since those days. But true to her amazingness, she has loved our family through adoptions, loss, and now most recently with Ben’s illness.

Every year, her family puts on a crazy amazing Christmas light show in Frisco, Texas, and donates the proceeds to families that need a few extra blessings. Several weeks ago, she told me that our family had been selected as one of the families that they would like to bless. I cried. Ben cried. We can feel the love all the way from Texas! Jenni, I still want to be like you when I grow up and I so wish that COVID wasn’t keeping us from jumping in the party bus and driving to Frisco to hug your guts and witness the glory of the Burkman Holiday Home in person. For now, we will have to settle for the virtual stuff but from our hearts, we can’t thank you enough for continuing to sit on this crazy teeter-totter with us. Much love girl!! And for those of you close enough to get to Frisco, check them out!

Be sure to check them out on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/burkmanholidayhome/ and make sure to tune in to “Live with Kelly and Ryan” on Monday, 12/14/2020, when the Burkman’s will be on to showcase their amazing home and hearts.
